Ever heard of Yoke Lore? Well its about time you did. Adrian, singer and banjo-player, and pal Garren on the drums, are what bought the music alive at the Camden Assembly this past Tuesday night. After being a fan of Yoke Lore for a year now, I was absolutely thrilled to see Adrian live - and by no means was I disappointed.
The set began with Fake You, a song that is both dance-worthy, as well as one you're most likely going to cry to. Immediately, I was impressed by how the songs sounded exactly the same as the professionally recorded versions. Not only were the drums shaking the room, but the vocals were on point which is sometimes an aspect of live music that can let down the performance.
Something that was fortunately consistent throughout the night was the passion both Adrian and Garren had for performing and the music they were playing. It was very clear on both their faces how indulged they were by the music, the sounds, the lyrics, which is a factor that I believe makes artists real musicians. Their eyes were shut and they had big smiles on their faces, which made everyone in the crowd grin too.
A very positive thing about small concerts like this one, is how intimate they are. It gives the artists a really big opportunity to converse with the audience and make the experience even more personal. Adrian took advantage of this. After every other song he stopped to have a talk with us, speaking about deep things, cracking jokes and explaining the meanings behind some of his songs, which truly opened a lot of the audiences eyes.
Alongside the chats, Adrian also made a lot of eye contact with the audience, almost as if he was taking everything in and enjoying the moment, and had a friendly smile on his face throughout the performance. Then came what I like to call the Yoke Dance. If you haven't seen this, search for videos of Yoke Lore live - crazy dancing is one way to put it. His ability to let himself go and be engulfed by the music, flowing with it and allowing myself and other members of the audience to let loose and be free too is amazing!
Overall, my experience of Yoke Lore live was honestly one of the best concerts I've attended, it allowed me to meet people from across the globe, make memories and have an amazing night in general. I thoroughly recommend listening to Yoke Lore's new EP Mediations, out now!
