Wallows Live Review; The Most Interactive Band I've Seen

There were a lot of notes I made in my head during this show yesterday. As a genuine fan of this band I didn't want to have a critical bone in my body - but this is part of my job. So, I made every critical point I could, and every good point I could. This is my evaluation of what Wallows are like live.

Starting off, the set of neutral colours and two warm lamps per small stage, of which there are three, is sweet, cute, and cosy. However, I have seen smaller bands have far better backgrounds and sets. I feel like part of this is up to the fact this band is still fairly new and learning their path as they go, whereas the smaller artists I've seen with such sets had been together for over a decade. I do truly believe that in the next few years they will flesh their aesthetic out even more, and that this will continue to improve, but it was still very sweet and intimate.

This band sounds exactly like they do on recordings. It's safe to say that the music live is insanely good and their sound is just immaculate. Braeden struggled at times to hit the high notes but not in a 'I'm-out-of-tune' way but a 'I'm-a-little-nervous-to-see-if-i-can-reach-this' way. None the less, he still did. And props to him for it. The passion behind all of their eyes as they sang and danced was beautiful, and refreshing to see.

One thing about this band that was absolutely spot on and could not have been more perfect was how much they interacted with the crowd. Braeden spoke to almost everyone around me, noticed every sign, acknowledged as many people as he could. Dylan, when not playing an instrument, went to every inch of the stage as he could. Even Cole, who comes off less talkative, when he got on the mic did a whole speech about how grateful he was. Two songs before the end, I held up a sign saying can I please have a set list. Braeden saw it, and at the end remembered and quickly went to peel a set list off of the stage floor and came and gave it to me personally.

Not just that, but as Dylan asked the crowd if everyone was okay he noticed that someone wasn't and immediately got security and didn't continue the show until the person was okay. That was the first time I'd seen something like that in person. Their gratitude and care was genuine and real, and I think that is what makes shows like this so intimate, personal, and unforgettable.

Almost all the fans I met were the most hospitable fans I have ever waited in line with. From buying me food, drinks, blankets, lending me gloves, heat packs, hot water bottles, and flowers to throw on stage, everyone was so genuinely kind and lovely, and although that's not much of a comment on the band themselves, I do think the fanbase of someone/people tells you what you need to know, and this proves it.

If you have the chance, please see Wallows live. They're amazing, and I say that as unbiasedly as I can. I always say I don't usually have the desire to see people live more than once and if I do (like Yoke Lore, for example), it means they're amazing live (and yes, that I love them). But Wallows is a band I would see again, and I also think they'd be incredible in a festival atmosphere. Thank you, Wallows, for a great night.
