The Aubreys Debut Album is an Indie Treat.

The Aubreys recently released their debut album, 'Karaoke Alone'. Having released singles over the past couple years post-Calpurnia-split, we were aware of what kind of sound they were going for. Although I love the duo, none of their singles really stood out to me. However, when the album was released, I was pleasantly surprised.

The first song on the album, 'Same As You', is my personal favourite. With a tendency to use mellow chords and progressions, this one seemed lighter, catchier, and still completely within their brand. And, for such young people, they touch on some beautiful and meaningful subjects like death, loneliness, and connections with other people.

I have mentioned it several times before but when an artist, or artists, are passionate about what they're doing, it almost makes their art ten times better. Finn and Malcolm are clearly very two passionate people about what they do, constantly giving to the fans and creating more and more music.

Not to mention the incredible art work they have used for their singles and album. It perfectly fits their image and sound, an indie, comforting eerie kind of atmosphere being created from them. The artistry behind these somewhat simple illustrations show their creativity and passion in one.

Although the duo have yet to release any tour date information, hence my inability to discuss their stage performance in depth, many are hoping for their return to the stage and to hear these new songs live.

Overall, this young duo is one that can only go up from here. With a differentiation in their sound coming through finally in their album, a new brand in illustration, and much more to look forward to, we are eagerly awaiting what is next for this band.
