ME: Since I've followed you, I've always known you as a musician, somewhat how we met, through mutuals that made music. Do you feel like being a musician is something you're happy being identified with?
BRIDGET ARTMAN: Yeah, music has been something I have always identified with, it makes me incredibly happy that people would think of me as a musician because that's what I've always wanted to be and it's super cool that people are starting to think of me as one.
M: Did you always want to be a musician?
BA: Yes! Ever since I was a little kid I have always wanted to make music. I've been writing songs for as long as I can remember. I used to write fake letters to Lady Gaga pretending to thank her for coming to my show she I was like seven, which is slightly embarrassing but also pretty funny.
M: You've recently released some music! How does that feel?
BA: It feels great! I've been trying to release music for years and recently I finally became confident enough in myself to put my songs out there, so it feels pretty amazing.
M: What has been the response to your new releases?
BA: The first song I released is called Never Bored, and I think overall people like it (I hope). The coolest response I had to my music was when I was playing a live show and when I played Never Bored, this couple started dancing. After the show they approached me and told me that my lyrics made them think of their marriage, and they had just gone on vacation and the whole time they were wearing sunglasses from the dollar store! That's a main lyric from the chorus and it was super cool to hear people talk about how they could relate to songs that I had written. It was especially cool that they said it related to their marriage because I wrote Never Bored when I was 17 and knew absolutely nothing about marriage or love in the slightest.
M: To someone listening to your music for the first time what would you describe your music to be like?
BA: I would describe my songs as indie, singer/songwriter, and hopefully something that everyone can relate to, at least a little bit.
M: Are you already working on more? Do you ever stop making music or take a break?
BA: I have four more songs ready to release right now actually. The next one coming out is called I Took A Trip (Around Space).
M: You've also done some work with other people. What's the biggest difference between solo and collab work?
BA: Collab work is more fun and less stressful. My friend Branden (who makes music under the name b) is insanely talented at making drum patterns and that kind of stuff, so when I went over to his home studio I just laid down a melody and we made this super cool instrumental track that I'm very proud of called "naturalight". When I make music by myself I get perfectionistic so it's hard for me. I hope to release music soon that is 100% just me. That's a huge goal for me.
M: Which do you prefer?
BA: Right now, probably collabing. It's more fun.
M: Can we look out for any music videos in the future?
BA: YES! That's something I've been wanting to do for a long time. I have a lot of ideas for I took a trip (around space), so that is probably the song you will see a music video for first if I had to take a wild guess.
M: I like to end on a fun one; if you could soundtrack a film for any director or actors movie, which director/actor would it be?
BA: I really like the idea of making music for a show like Euphoria or We Are Who We Are. Luca Guadagnino is a genius director. And the compositions that Labrinth made for Euphoria are absolutely mind-blowing.
