Mia: So, Roe, to start off I'd love to know when you knew music would be the right path for you?
Roe: It came to choosing my A-levels and when I thought about it, Music was the only thing I could see myself doing. So I left school and went on to do Music in a different college.
M: Recently, seeing you live, you go up and do literally everything by yourself. Is that tricky for you, because you certainly seemed to have mastered it!
R: It took a while to learn haha! But I love performing the way that I do. It started out with just playing guitar, and I added all the other components slowly. I still don’t think my setup is complete, but I might need an extra arm soon if I want to add anymore.
M: How was it to be performing in London? And for Yoke Lore!
R: It was absolutely deadly! Adrian is such an incredible guy and it was an honour to open for him. The audience was super cool too, that was such a fun show.
M: You explained one of your songs, Hey Thomas, is based around the topic of bullying. Do you write the majority of your songs on experiences you’ve had or issues you think deserve coverage?
R: I write all my songs based on things that have happened to me or to the people around me. Sometimes even just issues that I really want to talk about. When I started writing, it was the usually loveydovey songs and I got bored of that pretty quickly. Shedding light on topics that don’t normally get talked/sung about makes writing a lot more interesting and I feel a lot more fulfilled as a writer.
M: I really look up to that. Do you have any exciting events coming up?
R: I’m supporting Snow Patrol at the Eden Project this weekend, supporting the Coronas in August, heading out on a UK tour with Ryan McMullan in October and there’s a whole lot in between. I’m so excited for it!
M: Awesome! When should we be keeping an ear out for new music?
R: I’m hoping to bring out an album by the end of the year, no date yet but I’m working on it!
