'Music is an endless improvement' - Interview with Clement Froissart.

ME: I went back recently to hear my fave song by Concorde which was Just Kiss Her. It’s become so nostalgic to me but is still so beautiful. Was the inspo behind that song a real life happening or a made up story you wanted to create?

CLEMENT: Actually, it’s a real fact inspired song!!! We were leaving together with Max and Roger at that time (Keys & Bass in Concorde) and we used to go dancing very often in a club called « Le Pulp ». It was a lesbian place very open minded where all the cool people use to have fun and with the best electronic dj’s in Paris, it was a kind of a headquarter for us and our friends and we’ve started the band because of the music we’ve heard here.

Once, I felt completely in love with a girl here, and I was asking Max what I should do to seduce her, we were a bit drunk and high and I finally kissed her :) I was so proud and my best friend helped me so much, it was a team work haha, that we’ve decided to make a song of it, it’s all about two best friends supporting each other and giving confidence to manage to kiss a one night love overcoming shyness.

As Concorde are no longer together (from what I gather), do you still listen back to your stuff and love it as much as you probably did when you made it?

I’ve always loved what we did, no much now than in the past. We’ve always wanted to make this music for us first and thought that if we love what we do some people will too.

You can speak both French and English but which is your favourite to sing in?

I love both, English is with Concorde and French is with my solo.

I was so happy to see you make your own music still. In your most recent EP, Amour Amure, what is your favourite song if you can choose just one?

Oh thank you!!! « Peupleraie » is the most important song in the EP. It’s my first french song ever and I’m talking about a very deep time in my life in a very simple way. It’s my daddy issue song hahah and it gave me the strength making a new solo project !!!

What is your opinion on both modern French and modern English indie music?

It’s defintely easier now to have an indie french singing band because of « La Femme », I think they made it possible. So we have quiet a few cool artists here now like Flavien Berger, Malik Djoudi, Juliette Armanet, I love them but I’m trying not listening them too much cause I wanna keep it my own way. As an exemple, You can see so many bands now trying to be the new Mac Demarco using the same guitar chorus pedal and trying to get the same attitude. I think it’s useless, it’s better beeing honest with what you are and stick with your personnality, not beeing a clone. And I think this is propper to indie music, when a band have a bit of success, everybody is copying, it’s a bit boring.

As an artist, I prefer listening old stuff like « Motown » and weirdo electronic music because I don’t want to be inspired by new stuff.

Do you have a favourite artist or song right now? anyone you would recommend me to listen to?

I really like Los Retros, it’s a 19 years old cool kid !!!! And I love the way Andy Shauf is composing, it’s one of the best song writer at the moment. In the hip hop game, I’m very Kendrick Lamar.

And I’ve always listened to a lot of African music too like Francis Bebey, William Onyeabor, they give me some power and a big smile on my face.

if you hadn’t gone down the music route in life, where do you think you’d be now instead?

Doctor! I’m a bit hyponcondriac and when I’m taking care about other’s problem I don’t think about mines ;) or chef, I love cooking.

Are you making music that younger you would love to listen to?

Tricky question!!! I was completely in noisy music bands like Sonic Youth when I was a kid so I would say No !! But if I was a kid today I would say Yes ;) I’m trying not to stick with era’s and movements, I hope I could be timeless !?

Do you think that once you start making music and become a musician that’s well known like yourself that there is still room for improvement?

Sure, I’m learning everyday, music is an endless improvement, I've learned drums and piano for my solo project ;)

Is there any more music we can look forward to coming in 2020?

I’m finishing my first LP right now, still have a good month in the studio. I hope releasing it for november 2020!
