Joji is Crazy - Live Review

Yep; crazy. Insane, some might say. But all with good intentions. I'll explain why. Imagine you expect to see Joji, the wonderful artistic creative albeit comedic musician you've loved for years, and not only does he have the weirdest, craziest, most questionable beginning acts... but he also brings out six jack sparrows for a competition (one of which looked suspiciously JUST like Johnny Depp) and plays black jack in real time. Not to forget, the random DJ set mid-joji with proper untz-untz music.

I'll admit - it wasn't what I expected. Joji is beyond multi-faceted, from pink guy to the person who created the masterpiece that is slow dancing in the dark. But the pure insanity and randomness of the night was unforeseen. Nonetheless, it was extremely enjoyable. Many times I found my jaw placed upon the ground, confused, amused, and very overwhelmed.

I believe that part of this whacky structure to his own performance is partially down to his health conditions that, in the past, have meant he's had to cancel gigs. It gave him breaks between songs, and if that's what he needs then that's what he needs. And, although it's an absolute stereotype, everyone did look how you'd expect the spectrum of Joji fans to look, but the crowd was a lot better than expected. People looked out for each other, really followed gig etiquette, and just enjoyed the night. With a predominantly male crowd, and a good percentage dressed as pink guy, this was pleasantly surprising.

I have truly never seen someone sing so effortlessly and so on point. It takes a lot of musicians strain to reach certain notes, and even when they make it perfectly, it's not coming effortlessly to them the way it does to Joji. He was beyond impressive in terms of talent and skill and I was blown away.

Stage presence is a big thing, as my readers know. You can be an amazing singer, have brilliant songs, but have the worst stage presence; and just like that, you're going to wish you hadn't spent that money. Funnily enough, Joji's gimmicks added to that and ultimately made it feel like the funniest gig I've been to - which I'm not sure is the goal, but it was definitely achieved.

Do I recommend seeing Joji? Absolutely. It's a spectacle, not a gig, but it's still a noteworthy one to say the least. With outdated graphics and funny random 'hype men' on stage with him, Joji is an insane watch, in every way that that can be taken.
