ME: I think it’s impossible for me to start without speaking about the amazing covers and graphics you have. Is that something you do yourself and if so, is it something you love to do?
JUSTIN MAGNAYE: I outsource them! I wish I could create them myself but I can't haha. I come up with the ideas in relation to the songs the covers are for and give those ideas to an artist and see what comes out!
M: When I looked at your Spotify description you list a bunch of artists that inspire your stuff and I could totally see that come through. How would you describe your music however in one word?
JM: Rejuvenating!
M: There’s definitely an American-esque vibe to your music, is that something you’ve created on purpose or naturally?
JM: I think it's been very natural, it's normal to me but at the same time, it has a purpose. I do think it's part of my imagery and vibe, my aesthetic, so it's a mix of both normal and purposeful I think!
M: You recently released teenage angst. How did it feel releasing that?
JM: It was a tough one! It's taken two years and it's one that I couldn't wait to release.
M: Can we expect anything new post teenage angst?
JM: yes! By the time this interview comes out I can probably be able to say that I have a 17 song album in the works, including Brooklyn bridge and one more time, which I cannot wait for to come out! I am really really excited.
M: Where do you see yourself and your music in the next five years?
JM: Trying to change the world and industries. That's where I hope to be at least; I want to do a lot with my music, and it's a dream of mine to be able to. Music is powerful and I want to make movements with it, in a positive way.
M: What is your biggest goal with music?
JM: MTV awards and Grammys! That's the dream! I would love to get up there and thank everyone who has ever gotten me to this point, like really thank them because I feel like I haven't been able to.
M: What triggered you to begin making music?
JM: The usual musician stuff; love for poetry, getting my heart broken! I kind of went through those natural things and turned my love for poetry into songwriting and making music. It's been something I go to when I needed escape, support, to cope, so it's always just made sense.
M: Do you feel like you have a mission with your music?
JM: Definitely. I want people to understand that you should have a goal and strive for it, you may not be where you want to be but you’re not where you used to be either. That's what I'm constantly feeling and noticing, and I think everyone notices that at some point but I want to help on that journey.
M: I like to always end on a fun one; if you could achieve one thing by tomorrow with your music what would it be?
JM: give me Madison square gardens! give it to me now and I'll take it in my stride haha!
