'I'm a big fan of keeping it real' - Interview with Noah Dillon.

ME: You recently came out with a song called sunburnt in July and, following it, a music video. What has this release been like during a pandemic?

NOAH: Its’s been a really strange time to put music out! But also the best time for writing, recording and honing in the sound that I want. I feel like we really get to gage how a song has been received once we play it live and we can feel the energy from the audience, so it’s been strange not being able to get on stage and play.

M: Your music video was very cool, kind of abstract and out there. Do you aim for ideas that are a bit bizarre and unique?

N: Hmm, all the ideas I had for that video came to me when I was driving one day. Once I get on a roll with visualising idea’s I tend to go on a bit off a tangent and in a sense that’s kind of what the song is about (me spending way to much time overthinking). So I really wanted the video to have the vibe that it was a little peak into my relatively incoherent thought process.

M: was it fun filming the MV?

N: SO fun, we had the privilege of spending some time on a friends farm in the hills whilst filming and it was gorgeous! Also we got to work with Daniel Hilderbrand again which isn always a treat.

M: You also got signed early in July by New World Artists. As an up and coming musician, this must have been exciting. What was the first thing you felt once it was official?

N: It was very very exciting and a huge step for us. When it was offical I just got more and more driven and passionate on writing the songs I want to produce and putting out the best music I can to make this thing my life.

M: I really like your Instagram because you have really good shots! When it comes to photography, does it revolve around your social media aesthetic or more so the aesthetic of you/the music?

N: I think mainly the aesthetic of our music. All my writing is very personal and real to my life, so I try to make my socials to reflect that.

M: The colours on your feed right now are very earthy. Do you ever draw from specific inspiration for your visuals and/or feed?

N: I love minimal and eccentric design so iv been trying to incorporate it into our shoots a bit. A big Inspo for this is Aldous Harding, her videos and visuals are so dope!

M: I really loved your merch earlier this year! The colours were so cool and the image itself is movie-esque, obviously based off of Matthew McConaughey. When it comes down to merch, what is your thought process for ideas?

N: Thanks! I guess the main thing I aim to create is just something that’d id want to buy if I saw it in a shop. Lucky Claudia (who plays base in the band) helps me with the graphics and is amazing.

M: the covers for your singles are personally some of my favourites from everyone I’ve interviewed. They all somehow correlate and match up in one way or another. I get a very retro vibe. What or who would you say has inspired your look and sound the most?

N: Much like the music video’s the idea’s behind the single covers tend to come to me in a stranger moment visualisation. I’m a big fan of keeping it real and portraying a sense of what the lyrical story might mean just through the cover. I’m really into Car Seat Head Rest’s covers!

M: you’ve been releasing music since 2017 and already have over 42k monthly listeners! That’s an insanely high number. Has the growth of your listeners been overwhelming or slow?

N: To be honest I find it all very overwhelming when I think about it! I can’t believe that many people are listening, I feel very grateful and honoured to take up some space in peoples daily listens!

M: I like to end on a fun one! If Matthew McConaughey had to listen to one song of yours that WASNT Matthew McConaughey, which one would you want him to listen to?

N: I think Don’t Act Like You Know Me, I can imagine him drinking some whisky on a farm listening to that one haha.
