ME: You recently reached 13 million streams on your song nice guy - how did reaching that feel?
HECTOR GACHAN: Great! But I'm trying my best to not get too attached to it, I think if you do that, you set yourself up for failure.
M: When you go into making music, do you ever consider numbers like that and how many people it’ll reach?
HG: I don't think it's the right way to go into it, man. It gets in the way of whatever I'm conjuring. The most important thing is that I'm making music that I like and if others like it too then it's a positive.
M: What would you say the main differences between Australia and Edinburgh are in terms of the music scene?
HG: I wouldn't say there's a massive difference, but I'm also Bosnian and I think moving here just gave me more opportunities. I think there's more to do here than in Australia due to it's kind of edge of the world placement. Everyones doing something here.
M: Last year you release your album, care 2 share - what was the response to that like?
HG: It was good! I think even though it's been a year people are still warming up to it. My first album which I released in 2017 only went viral like last year so I think these things naturally take time.
M: From looking at your insta you seem to be quite a nature guy. Would you say nature inspires you?
HG: Definitely. Without sounding too woo-woo, I think the universe is all around us and in us and that kind of stuff inspires me a lot in general and when it comes to music.
M: The artwork for care 2 share, the video, and even some of your insta posts at the time is beautiful. Who did that and what inspired it?
HG: There's an artist called Maria Jesús Contreras whose work I loved. I reached out and it turns out she actually listened to me, so it was like perfectly aligned.
M: So far this year you haven’t yet released anything. Is there something we can look forward to soon?
HG: Yes, I'm hoping to release something next year. I'm kind of at the seed stages of things, things are growing and some of those seeds are doing great and some of them aren't doing as good.
M: It seems like you’re very creative and not just from a music stand point. Would you say you’ve always been creative since you were a kid?
HG: Definitely. I grew up wanting to be an illustrator, I've always loved art and I love drawing. I think everyone is creative, it's just about whether you pursue it or what path in creativity you go down. It's therapy, and escapism.
M: You’ve been releasing on Spotify since 2017. What pushed you that year to release music?
HG: I think before that year, there was a lot of self doubt and I also was honing a lot of my skills.
M: I like to end on a fun one; if you had to make another title using the number 4 what would it be?
HG: Before Four - there's a band called that and it's such a sick name, and the number before four is three so it's almost two numbers at once, how cool is that?
