'Creating to Create'- Somebody's Child Interview Live at Reading Festival

ME: You performed at reading today, how was it?

SOMEBODY'S CHILD: Better than last time! A lot nicer to come in a proper van aha. It was one of our first UK festivals last time so it's nice to come back.

M: You’ve got a massive red/black vibe going on. Where did that come from?

SC: I've always loved orange/red. I think we achieved this classic look on the cover with it and I think it's just because it resonates with me. I'm very visual and I think our music is too so that come across in the cover.

M: Some of your songs have millions of listens - is that something you expected or wanted?

SC: Some people might think hard about it, I think I did for the first album but I don't anymore. I use an 80/20 rule where 80% is just a stream of consciousness and 20% is tying it together. It's part of my creative process, I'm creating to create rather than focusing on that stuff. That has to be the way.

M: How does it feel to have practically 200k people listening to you monthly?

SC: I'm wanting to give back through music, so it's a bonus that it's actually reaching so many people.

M: What would you say has been your biggest achievement in the past year music wise?

SC: Releasing the album; it was a magical experience. It feels like everything kind of lead up to this moment, releasing these songs, and luckily it's been received really well! It's going to mean different things to different people and its meaning to me may even change over time.

M: What’s your next biggest goal for the following year?

SC: being able to travel, continuing to work for myself because I really can't work beneath somebody else - if I can continue to do all this I'll be happy.

M: If you could tell yourself a few years ago about anything going on in your music career right now what would you tell yourself?

SC: Be patient. It's not going to stay stagnant either way so enjoy the process, nothings going to last so be present and in the moment.

M: Is there something you’re working on that we can maybe look forward to?

SC: Yeah, we're writing some new songs and revving up for another album.

M: I like to end on a fun one! Obviously as mentioned you’re performing at reading. Who would be your ideal person to guest perform with you at a festival?

SC: I think Thomas Edison... that would be very random, in a good way. He'd be playing with the lights and in his era's clothes and everything. I feel like he's the perfect guy to be with us on stage.
