Bonobo Live Feels Like a Trip

On 19th of May I saw Bonobo live at the Royal Albert Hall. The entire venue was packed which certainly added to the atmosphere of the night. My dad played Bonobo on many of our car drives, hence us all going together, but I still didn't know what to expect, and in a way I think that was best.

Bonobo has a great ability to capture a crowd, with lighting and visuals let alone just the sound. He puts on an entire performance, which is rather magical, and severely important for any musician, but the truth is - personally, it's hard for a dj to truly impress me. But that's just what he did.

I obviously knew I liked Bonobo's music, but experiencing it was far different. At one point, a singer named Nicole came out to do the vocals of which he has on a few of his songs. However, I strongly preferred his instrumental pieces as I truly believe that it allowed him to be more experimental.

As someone so deeply enamoured by film music, his music is less typical DJ and more film like, at least in my opinion, as I'm not really a fan of house music and probably wouldn't have enjoyed it had it been like that. His inspirations are clear and admirable and his experimental taste is the result of it.

Inspired by earth and nature, Bonobo's take on being a DJ is unique, personal and inspiring. The visuals during his set are beautiful, the lighting too, and although that's the bare minimum at a venue like the Royal Albert Hall, I was thoroughly content with it.

If you haven't heard of Bonobo, named after the Bonobo monkey, I highly recommend listening to his music, and seeing him live, for I believe concerts are and should always be an experience. And it truly was.
