On the 21st of January, Aurora released her new album, The Gods We Can Touch. Having released singles prior such as Giving Into Love and Heathens, i was extremely excited for this release, the first album of the year i was actually waiting for.
Touching quickly on the visuals, Aurora has never missed in all these years of her fame, however, i feel this time around has been her best yet. The psychadelic-like royal-red photos, covers, and videos, are exquisite and on brand. Aurora has a way with ideas for these visuals that draw us in and capture us.
I was obsessed with Auroras more recent singles, more so than her previous albums even, and therefore, had high hopes for her new album. As soon as it was released, i could tell i would not be disappointed. Aurora's magic on this album is unbelievable and unrepeatable too.
Immediately, I have to mention the long-awaited colab between Aurora and Pomme on this album. Everything Matters is the most beautiful song, but when Pomme comes in at the end, it feels like an absolute ascension to another planet. Their voices combined are ethereal and perfectly matched, and this song does them pure justice.
Although some songs do sound similar, i think she gets away with it because there are still some large differences. In some, the beats she uses are unlike any other songs shes ever released. In others, they are true Aurora-esque in the acoustic, slow, beauty. Starting the album off with instrumentals, and pretty much ending it on that too, emphasises her story portrayal.
I am seeing Aurora in April and cannot wait to hear these new songs live. I will be reporting back, and i look extremely forward to it.
