So, you've been a fan of Aurora's since you were twelve and you finally get the chance to see her. You have high hopes, knowing her voice is unique and insane and that she, unlike a lot of musicians, has an aesthetic that adds to her performance. And then you go, you see her live, and she still manages to blow you away and all those expectations suddenly seem so small? Are we really that surprised?
In the line, a lot of us were chattering about the set list, about what she'd wear, knowing she always showed up and out for her live performances. Some had seen her live already and knew she was great, which was promising. Aurora's ability to bring people together is very rare to her and a few others musicians and bands, in all honesty, but it was very beautiful.
Me and my friends get front row, basically, and at nine pm, she comes on stage. Shells cover the front of the stage, a moon like design stands beside her, and theatrical borders line the ceiling and sides. But all you can look at, is Aurora herself, capturing the stage, the crowd, in purely just her essence.
With no introduction needed, she begins to sing, and it's a good 50/50 possibility that someone is going to sound just as amazing live as they do recorded, but Aurora's voice is real, it is beautiful, it is hypnotising. Not a single note is unlike the ones she has recorded. Not a single one.
Set list wise, she hit every mark, new songs, old songs, classics like Runaway, and it was the perfect length too. Outfit wise, she did too, but that was far from a surprise. What was significant to me however, was the stage presence. I've had people say, 'well, I've seen Lana Del Rey live, and her voice is amazing! But she kind of just... stands there.' Stage presence is one of the most important things for a musician when performing. Aurora uses the whole stage, she dances, she walks barefoot the entire time, she interacts with the fans and the crowd, and she sits and talks with them too. Nothing about Aurora live should be taken for granted.
Ultimately, it was one of my favourite concert experiences ever. I met beautiful people, I cried throughout half the set, Aurora looked at me during one of her speeches as I cried and said 'we are sensitive people but we are beautiful people' ... and basically my life is complete. It was, as me and my friends claimed afterwards, therapy. Aurora, you are the closest thing to magic. And if you haven't seen her live, but want to, this is your sign.
